While working at Fennick McCredie Architects in Boston, MA, Chris served as a Designer on an 1870’s Back Bay row house renovation provides the design challenge of maintaining and restoring the traditional character of the house while introducing a contemporary take on space and function. The themes of “telling a story” and “curiosity” were used as the binding elements.
A common challenge of the Boston row house is the sense of separation one feels between the 6 floors of the home. This design provides new vertical connectivity across all 6 stories via interconnecting double-height spaces, balconies, and enlarged stair openings at selected locations. Further direct connection to the outdoors is achieved through sunken outdoor patios and at the uppermost floor, a large exterior patio, open to the sky above, and providing a welcoming connection to the rooftop patio and garden.
